Patient Partner Spotlight: Advocating for Timely Access to Clinical Trials in Canada

We are proud to highlight a recently published article featuring one of RareKids-CAN’s dedicated patient partners, Maureen Smith. In the article, Maureen shares her powerful personal story and advocates for meaningful change to the clinical trials landscape in Canada—particularly for those living with rare diseases.

Maureen underscores two urgent priorities: the need to create an environment that is more conducive to attracting clinical trials to Canada, and the importance of reducing delays for individuals with rare diseases who are often willing to do whatever it takes to access a trial. Her message reinforces the critical role of rare disease clinical trials and the pressing need for more streamlined ethics review processes across the country.

We extend our deepest thanks to Maureen for her leadership, courage, and ongoing advocacy to reduce the barriers to clinical trials for the rare disease community. Her voice is helping to drive real change and improve access for all.
